The Billabong is a church family who exist to Be Disciples who Make Disciples (our mission). Planted 25 years ago in Canning Vale, we now worship and minister to our local communities in Canning Vale, based at our Community Centre, and Piara Waters, a recent church plant meeting in hired venues. We hold contemporary worship on Sundays, meet in various groups throughout the week, provide ministries for children and teenagers and serve our local communities in various ways.
As an Evangelical congregation, The Billabong holds to a reformed, evangelical and historically orthodox view of the Christian faith. The Billabong's "ministry placement" (Lead Minister / Pastor" position), will be vacant in 2026, and expressions of interest are welcomed for candidates for this role to begin in January / February 2026. Expressions of interest are submitted to the Placements Commission of the Uniting Church, and are welcomed from Ministers/Pastors accredited within the Uniting Church or in other denominations.
The core responsibilities of the incoming Minister/Pastor will be:
Champion the mission, vision and values of The Billabong
Exercise general oversight of the Canning Vale Sunday Celebration
Mentor and support the leadership of the Piara Waters congregation
Preach ~3 times per month, building up and equipping the saints, casting vision
Provide and encourage dedicated training in disciple making for members and leaders
Provide leadership and care for the church council (eldership), together with the chairperson, in line with the established guidelines for church council (available on request)
Develop healthy relationships with the wider church (Uniting Church Presbytery / Synod and ecumenically)
Provide care, support and accountability for the volunteer leaders of ministries and groups
Oversight of and care for staff and other ministry agents of The Billabong

Ministers/Pastors accredited with another denomination
Expressions of interested from Ministers/Pastors outside of the Uniting Church will be considered and, if called to the Placement, will be appointed under the designation of "Minister from another denomination". Please fill out a "Ministry Leadership Profile" and submit this, along with your cover letter to andrew.williams@wa.uca.org.au. Any questions about this process/your ministry leadership profile may also be directed to Andrew.
Leaders not accredited with another denomination but bringing relevant gifts and ministry experience.
Those not holding accreditation from a recognised denomination may apply to become recognised as a Pastor with the Uniting Church, which is subject to the fulfilment of various training and ongoing learning. Please fill out a "Pastor Ministry Leadership Profile" and submit this, along with your cover letter to andrew.williams@wa.uca.org.au.
Expressions of interest will be received until Friday 22nd August and will be assessed by the Placements Commission of the Uniting Church WA and, if appropriate, forwarded to the nominating committee for this position for further discussion.
